Issuance of SSS number does not immediately qualify you for benefits or coverage. However, the number is valid to be used only for contributions. If you’re below 18 years old during the time you registered or you registered online at www.sss.gov.ph, your number is tagged as “temporary,” which means that applying for benefits or loans is not allowed unless you request for the status to be changed into “permanent.”

Changing your SSS number from temporary to permanent is simple. You just need to bring your patience with you and follow these 4 easy steps.

1. Fill-out SSS E-4 form or Member Data Change Request.

The form is available at any SSS branch or you can download the form by clicking this Member Data Change Request. The form is for you to update your personal information or correct any discrepancies during E-1 registration.

You may want to include updating your contact info like phone number, email and address or if you just got married and blessed with a child you can include it with your request.

2. Prepare necessary documents.

Once you’re done with the form, prepare your documents. You just need to submit photocopies, but you need to have the original for validation. Required documents varies depending on the update request. For changing status from temporary to permanent you just need any of the following;

Birth Certificate or in its absence, any of the following ID cards and/or documents:

Baptismal Certificate or its equivalent

Driver’s License

Passport

Professional Regulation Commission

(PRC) Card

Seaman’s Book (Seafarer’s Identification and Record Book)

You can use your voter’s id if you don’t have driver’s license or passport.

3. Go to the nearest SSS branch.

For processing, you need to personally go to your nearest SSS branch with your documents and ask for a number upon entrance. Make sure that the number given to you is designated for member data change request or E-4 counter. Relax and wait for your turn.

4. Submit.

Once you get to the counter, you just need to submit your filled-out form and documents and you’re done. You can use your extra time to visit your favorite cafe for a frappe to celebrate.

Changing your number from temporary to permanent makes your SSS benefits more accessible for you. So, updating it while it’s convenient will save you from hassle in the future.

Hassle kasi nung affidavit.
